Firewood and what’s in a BTU

Think of BTU (British Thermal Unit) as heat output. The term BTU is used to describe the heat value (energy content) of fuels, and also to describe the power of heating systems.
BTU or British Thermal Unit is the amount of energy required to heat one pound of liquid water by one degree Fahrenheit.

Most people burn firewood for one reason...heat.
So, it only makes sense to burn a firewood that generates high BTUs so your home can stay as warm as possible.
There is only so much fuel energy in a piece of firewood – although a piece of wood can burn for over 12 hours with very minimal heat output, the smartest way to burn firewood is efficiently.
